The Way You Saw Me 2009
This title came from the first impression of someone who saw me for the first time and relates to my hearing difficulty. The person said “When I saw you first, I imagined that a little girl in a perfectly dark room with very small window, there was no light at all, only was a glimmer from the small window…But the window was so higher than the girl to see the outside…she desired to see the outside, but she could not see…” When I was staying in the residency in Rotterdam, the Dutch style windows in studio were abnormally high and huge to me. It somehow physically reminded me the person’s saying. I carved a lot of holes with knife on the attached black paper on the windows, and then the holes twinkled like as stars in the room due to the sun light from outside. So this place is a kind of non-place as a poetic metaphor.
